Apple loses copyright dispute with security startup Corellium
According to court records, Apple initially attempted to acquire Corellium in 2018. When the deal was stalled, Apple sued Corellium last year, claiming that a virtual iPhone with only the bare essentials for security research violates copyright law.
December 30, 2020 - Co-founded in 2017 by husband and wife Amanda Gorton and Chris Wade, Corellium has made great strides in security research with the ability to run virtual iPhones on desktop computers. Corelliums software eliminates the need to use a physical iPhone that contains dedicated software for poking and producing iOS and Apple mobile operating systems.
The judge in this case ruled that Corelliums’ creation of a virtual iPhone was not copyright infringement. This is because it was designed to improve the security of all iPhone users.
